Don’t get me wrong: awareness is powerful. Seeing your patterns clearly is the first step. Therapy, journaling, and reflection help us understand where our pain comes from and give us language for what’s happening.
But awareness alone doesn’t dissolve unconscious conditioning. That’s why, even after years of “doing the work,” you might still feel like you’re bumping up against the same walls.
Because while you’ve been trying to fix things on the outside — your job, your relationship, your habits — the deeper wiring inside hasn’t been touched.
The Shadow at Work
What’s really running your life is often invisible: the shadow.
The shadow isn’t some dark monster waiting to destroy you. It’s simply the unconscious patterns, beliefs, and fears you picked up along the way — usually as protection.
It’s the part of you that says:
“I’m not safe to be seen.”
“I’ll never have enough.”
“Love means abandoning myself.”
These old programmes get buried so deep that they quietly shape every choice you make, without you even realising it.
So you can journal all you like, but until you meet these parts head-on — compassionately, honestly, and courageously — you’ll keep circling the loop.
My Story
I know this because it happened to me.
I thought I was doing everything right: I was a jewellery designer, “successful” on the outside, living what looked like the dream. But behind the scenes, I was exhausted. Overwhelmed. Stuck in toxic patterns I didn’t know how to break.
It wasn’t until my own life cracked open — through illness, heartbreak, and burnout — that I realised the truth: no amount of change on the outside would shift what was still running on the inside.
That’s when I met my shadow. That’s when I began to see the unconscious beliefs shaping my every choice. And that’s when I began to truly change.
